
Roy Blumenthal, past NJMMA President and Business Administrator for the Township of River Vale and NJMMA life member, passed away on January 10, 2023. Born on February 25, 1938 in New Brunswick, he grew up in Passaic and graduated from Passaic High School in 1956. Roy received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and completed additional studies at the University of Michigan. He also served in the US Army from 1961-1963.
After completing his military service, Roy began his career as a municipal administrator. He worked in Florida before eventually becoming the Business Administrator for the Township of River Vale. He held this position justly, guiding the township through seven different mayors. He was recognized as the longest-serving business administrator in the State of New Jersey. Roy was known for his integrity, ethics, loyalty, and productivity, and was respected by his co-workers and peers. He retired in 2003.
In 1971, Roy became interested in Rotary International and joined the River Vale-Old Tappan Rotary Club. He later joined the Pascack Valley Rotary Club and remained a member of this club until his death. In addition to his town roles, Roy served numerous times as a moderator for the Academic Decathlon competition in local high schools, tutored the foreign born in English as a Second Language program (ESL), interviewed candidates for the University of Pennsylvania (his alma mater), and acted as a court-appointed guardian.
