Benefits

Quarterly Meetings

NJMMA periodically holds quarterly meetings including a speaker or educational session and lunch for a small fee. These meetings allow for networking with other managers & assistants, sharing ideas, and creating community partnerships. The last meeting of the year is an annual awards program recognizing members for outstanding service to local government.

Annual Conference

The annual conference includes two days of educational seminars and workshops, roundtable discussions, and fellowship with colleagues from around the state. Annual conference fees are not included in the membership fee.

Managers in Transition Program (MIT)

The purpose of this program is to provide a support system for members during periods between public sector management positions through a multifaceted approach designed to protect legal and financial interests & to maintain the member’s sense of self worth. NJMMA County Coordinators will strive to maintain regular contact with the manager in transition and call on others to contact the individual for support. All NJMMA members are encouraged to support managers in transition, including but not limited to, member employment of MIT’s for special projects, member hosting MIT for the purpose of providing office facility &/or office support (may be a bartered exchange), and personal outreach by members to MIT’s.

Mentoring Program

The purpose is to give the assistant or deputy additional on-the-job training opportunities by experiencing daily operations and/or by participating in a special project in another municipality, thereby gaining skills & experience in areas of municipal operations other than those in which they are currently involved. Time will also be dedicated to discussing professional development and career opportunities. Assistants & deputies work with another manager in another municipality for one day per week for four weeks.

NJMMA Committees

NJMMA has many standing committees contributing to the overall effectiveness of the organization & providing members with an opportunity to be involved to a greater degree. The current committees are assistants, awards, county coordinators, education/programming, ethics, legislative, membership, affiliates, & spring conference. Members are encouraged to participate.
